Vetanco, a multinational veterinary laboratory with 100% Argentine capital, opened its third production and logistics plant located in the Planned Industrial Sector in General Rodriguez, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina.   The modern plant covers a total area of 33,000 m2.  9,000 m2 are dedicated to drug development and additive elaboration; as well as testing laboratories and warehouse space while maintaining the highest international standards. It also has 3,000 m2 of internal roads and parking spots for internal and external logistics.

This plant is capable of producing 1,000 tons per month of organic additives, pharmaceutical powders and pesticides for veterinarian use.  The warehouse space provides for the movement of 4,000 logistic racks, which allows sufficient support for projected future business growth within the next 5 years.  The new plant will require a staff of 50 people and will generate between 50 and 100 indirect jobs.

The project required a total investment of 32 million pesos.  The support of the National, Provincial and Municipal governments along with the Banco Credicoop were essential for the realization of this project. At a national level Vetanco and the project itself were chosen and included in the Bicentenario program.  This inclusion highlights the commitment Vetanco has with the scientific and productive framework within Argentina.

During the opening ceremony the Argentine Vice President Mr. Amado Boudou toured the new plant with Jorge Winokur and Horacio ManciniPresident and Vice Presidentrespectively of Vetanco.   Also present during the facility tour were National, Provincial and Municipal authorities:  Mrs. Débora Giorgi, Minister of Industry of the Nation, Dr. Oscar Parrilli, Secretary General of the Presidency, Dr. Alicia Margarita Kirchner, Minister of Social Development of the Nation, Norberto Yahuar, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Office, Lic. “The construction of this new plant aims to address markets that demand quality, traceability and independent product line installations. Through this investment we can better supply the growing domestic and international demand and double our capacity; all while maintaining our original plant production in Villa Martelli, which this year has operated at maximum capacity. In addition we expect to double our exports over the next five years, ” said Horacio Mancini, Vice President of Vetanco.

Moreover, in his speech, Mancini highlighted the strategic importance of investment in terms of import substitution, the increased value-added exports of Argentine products and the state of the art technology. These things are in accordance with the strategic view of the National Goverment for this term.

New vaccine for the poultry sector
Concurrently, Vetanco announced the recent approval by SENASA of BiotechVac, aninnovative vaccine against avian salmonellosis, which will soon be available in both the national and international markets. Biotech Vac is an in house development initiated by support of the Fontar program, which encourages the incorporation of technology in Argentina.  The vaccine was developed as a unique innovative platform technology for which currently no similar products are available in the market.  Designed using recombinant genetic engineering technologies Biotech Vac is a safe, orally administration inactive subunit vaccine: the antigen is neither live-attenuated nor injectable.  The vaccine’s function is solely based on the activation of the mucosal immune system. Furthermore, Biotech Vac possesses no vaccination reactions and avoids undesirable metabolic cost to generate protection.

“This vaccine will significantly increase the productivity and efficiency (5-7%) in processing meat.  On the other hand, domestic poultry can achieve improved health status required to successfully navigate the complex existing nontariff barriers to international trade with the First World. The basis on which we are going to work is the result of the support of the Ministry of Industry through its Bicentennial program, “saidHoracio Mancini.

The international scope of this innovation is complemented with technical and commercial developments of Bioinnovo.  Bioinnovo is a public-private collaboration between Vetanco and INTA that develops products for food security and is supported byFONARSEC (MinCyT).
